Euro 2016 – Part 1
The Euros, a competition that England have never won. Although, this year, everyone seems to think we may have the winning team…
As we edge closer to June, the Euros 2016 lays on the horizon. It really is a great time for football fans round the world, and indeed, Europe. It brings us all together, to watch ‘the great game’, as our emotions our tested through heartbreak, victory, and of course, goals.
The History
The UEFA Euro Tournament started all the way back in 1960, and like this year, it was hosted by France. The tournament saw USSR (Soviet Union), take home the gold as they beat Yugoslavia in the final by 2 goals to 1. In recent years, we have seen Spain win in 2012 (current champions), and the likes of the underdogs Greece winning in 2004, and France back in the year 2000. We have seen some of the finest players to ever play the game on these pitches, including Thierry Henry, Paolo Maldini, Alan Shearer, and of course, the current superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo.
You may have heard the talk this year about England having a good shot. We know this sort of chat starts to assemble 3 months before all of the tournaments we take part in, but we can honestly say, this year, we think we have the right team to compete! Just incase you missed it, in the last 2 weeks, we battled The Netherlands in a close 2-1 win (that we should’ve won), and beat the world champions Germany, in a well won 3-2. With youngsters like Dele Alli, and Eric Dier starting to find their feet at a very high level, and the goal scoring machine, Jamie Vardy proving he can do the deed at both club, and international level, we really are looking like a team that can take the trophy!
